I bought the 2 TB version. It's great having our photos and music online so we can use our Sony Bravia and Blu Ray player to browse photos or play music through our sound system. And my Grace Digital internet radio now has access to 4000 tracks on our local network. So, I like it. But...
I hooked it up as instructed to our network and installed the Iomega management software. The manager could not discover the drive as it was supposed to. I logged onto our router to find the IP address and added the device manually. That did it. Minor inconvenience. Then I noticed that the NAS device advertised its capacity as 1.8 TB, not 2 TB. OK, 1.8 TB is still a whale of a lot of storage, but it's not 2 TB. Now that I've got 8000 photos and 4000 audio tracks on the drive, there's still 1.78 TB of free space. So, not a big deal.
All the folders on the NAS showed up in my Windows Explorer folder list so I figured I could just copy all music and photos directly to the mapped drives. It... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Setup and Performs Well, March 27, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I got this Omega 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition from the Amazon Vine Program for review. Here's my take on it:

Setup was a snap. I noticed another reviewer had a problem with the online portion of the setup using Internet Explorer; I use Firebox and the setup was smooth and uneventful. I simply attached the (supplied) Ethernet cable to the drive and my D-Link router, then connected the power supply. The hardware was detected immediately and I installed the software from the included CD. Three easy steps completed in minutes.

I admit to not planning to use the this drive for sharing outside my network of two home computers, so some of the capabilities are beyond the scope of this review. However, I set up everything as if I were going to share with a remote device and it functions flawlessly using the Omega Personal Cloud feature. Simply invite guests and they can have access to photos, movies, files and more (includes the ability to read and... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall good device, October 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I have Iomega Home Media Cloud edition, 2 TB, up and running for only two days, so I can't provide much feedback about reliability and product life.
I've read many reviews before decide to buy this model. Of course, I've read also about the main competitors. If you check the ratings of them, there's usually the same numbers of reviews rating them 5 stars and 1 star, what amazed me.
So, I like to give my contribution to clarify some of the issues with my personal findings.
1. It worked out of the box. I just plugged it to router and turned it on. Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bits automatically mapped all shares. My router is not at same room as the PC, so the few seconds it took me to get back to the PC was enough to Windows identify it and map default shares.
2. Immediately I tried to configure Windows backup, but I couldn't assign any of the shares as backup destinations. First thought was: "yeah, the guys complaining about it are right - it can't work with W7... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars "Hello! I know I'm not an iPod, but I'll try real hard to please you!", November 5, 2010
By
Seor Spook "Spooky B" (Charlottetown, PEI, CANADA) - See all my reviews
As humans, we sometimes tend to personify our gadgets. Having witnessed the phenomenon in others, I'm happy to see I'm not the only one (a psychologist could explain it better, but it probably stems from our post-toddler, invisible friend/stuffed animal days, but no matter). So if this little MP3 player could speak, I reckon it would probably say something like, "Hi there! I know I'm not as full-blooded as an iPod Touch or as sleekly designed as an iPod Nano, but I'll work real hard to make you happy. Honest!"

First, a bit of history: I've owned iPods since late 2003 when I bought a spanking new 15 GB third generation iPod. Back then, smart phones had yet to come of age and if you wanted a high-capacity MP3 player, Apple were just about the only game in town. It helped matters immensely that my iPod was so well constructed since I used it day in, day out for five years until it finally died and I replaced it with a fourth generation iPod Nano. That Nano sure *seemed*... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great MP3 Player, October 7, 2010
I understand that many people are not great when it comes to touch controls. With that said, this product will not be for everyone. For me personally, I have no issues with touch control. When I bought this mp3 player, I immediately upgraded the firmware via Sansa Updater (which I highly recommend you do). They are constantly releasing updates for their mp3 players to make them better. Their latest firmware update improves the responsiveness of the touch controls. So if you are having problems with it, make sure you update your firmware to see if that will help.

Audio wise, this mp3 player is a beast! Way better than my original Sansa Fuze. It can get very loud. I mainly use Rhapsody with it and there are absolutely no problems with it. The only thing that slightly bothers me is that it puts a white border around the album art if its not big enough. But thats easy to get used to. The radio player on here is amazing also. You can even record broadcasts. I have yet to use... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy a Fuze+, look for an older model., December 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
Having bought an original Fuze for myself and one for my wife and having convinced two co-workers to buy the original Fuze, you could say I am a fan.

I wanted to buy my father one as a Christmas present and thought it would be nice to pre-load it with old time radio shows (my main use of the original Fuze). I thought that the new Fuze+ would be an improvement, but I was badly mistaken.

First off, the new Fuze+ does not have folders. If you have 1,000 episodes you have to scroll through all of them, as opposed to scrolling through folders that list them by show (i.e., if you have Jack Benny, Fred Allen, and Henry Morgan you do not see folders, but rather all of the individual files).

The start up is cruelly slow now.

The user interface is unwieldy and the buttons are overly sensitive. Yes, it looks more like an Apple product, but it does not work as well as a Sansa Fuze (original).

I expected there to be some issues... Read more

Purpose-Driven® Youth Ministry

Product Description

If you long to reach kids and see their lives changed by God, this comprehensive guide shows you how. Purpose Driven Youth Ministry will do for youth ministry what Rick Warren's Gold Medallion award-winning, The Purpose Driven Church is doing for pastoral ministry. It's an indispensable guide to creating and maintaining youth ministry for the long run. It will help you create a solid spiritual team that builds the foundations of the Christian faith into the hearts and lives of young people. Forged around the fundamental purposes of evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and worship, Purpose Driven Youth Ministry uses the experiences of Saddleback Church to illustrate what a healthy Youth ministry can be. Nine transferable principles help you - Connect with the power of God for passionate, committed leadership - Define the purpose of your ministry and communicate it effectively - Identify your potential audience - Create programs that reach your audience and fulfill God's purposes - Implement processes that move students to maturity - Enhance your ministry with clearly defined values - Team up with parents to involve the whole family - Find volunteers and develop them into participating leaders - Persevere through tough times and thrive in an ever-changing environment. Balancing both theory and practice, Purpose Driven Youth Ministry can be applied to any church setting, regardless of size, denomination, facilities, resources, and existing leadership. Purpose-Driven Youth Ministry will help you develop a ministry that equips students rather than a ministry that coordinates events. Doug Fields says, 'My goal for this book is to coach you through a plan to build a healthy youth ministry that isn't dependent on one great youth leader and won't be destroyed when the youth worker leaves the church. It's not a book on how to grow your youth ministry with six easy steps; it's about identifying, establishing, and building health into your church's youth ministry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had read it sooner, April 20, 2003

ANDREW MCHENRY (Emporia, KS) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Purpose-Driven Youth Ministry (Hardcover)
This is an easy-to-read textbook on youth ministry by a proven professional. Drawing from the same principles as Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Church, Fields (who is Warren's youth pastor at Saddleback Community Church) gives the foundational principles for youth ministry, explaining the different stages of faith commitment in adolescents, and providing strategies for a complete youth ministry.
Good: This book is an easy read, and doesn't require theological or professional ministry experience to understand, and yet is thorough. Any person who has basic relational skills and a heart to reach kids will be set to go after reading this book.
Bad: Fields is constantly uses lists and acronyms to teach his points. Examples: the different stages of faith commitment (core, committed, congregation, crowd, and community); spiritual lifestyle H.A.B.I.T.S. (hang time with God, accountability with another believer, Bible memorization, involvement with the church body, tithing... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Practical yet........, April 28, 2000
This review is from: Purpose-Driven Youth Ministry (Hardcover)
Doug does a great job with this book. It has extremely practical teaching that is easy to apply to any cultural ministry scenario that a youth pastor can face. The problem, however, is that I can design a great program that humms like a machine and sends a message, but that doesn't change a teenager's heart. While I know, first hand, that Doug's ministry has changed thousands of hearts, if not more, I feel that his book understates some important issues: 1) Prayer is the key to any ministry's survival. 2) The issue of shepherding (relationships built with staff, and youth is far more important that simply having an airtight mission statement etc. BOTTOM LINE- This book is a great tool, but not the end-all ministry guide that many have made it in to. I would love to see a sequal by Doug that delves deeper into issues of prayer and shepherding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foundational for growth, November 18, 1998
    By
arutledg@uoguelph.ca (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Purpose-Driven Youth Ministry (Hardcover)
This book is a clearly written, organized and in-depth look at the foundations to youth ministry. The pillars of ministry are outlined and given in ways that can be applied to any ministry in any setting with proper leadership. Doug Fields is an experienced youth pastor with wisdom and knowledge which has spurred his ministry to dynamic growth. Why we do what we do, who we are trying to reach, how to best accomplish this, what we're trying to do, when to do it and where to do it is the general format of the book. The foundations laid out in this book, when applied to your ministry, will give you a base for growth and development. Keeping in mind that development is more important than growth. Drawing youth into a more personal and deeper relationship with God is the key to this book. A must read for every youth pastor, worker, volunteer and prospective leader.
